While many the household name (James Brown and B.B. King to name a few) has rocked our creaky establishment with their unique brand of boogie and blues throughout the years, rising stars and touring musicians are always eager to make a lasting impression on the patrons of our bar! And, man, do they show out. This season, we’re highlighting four for you to put on your calendars if you’re looking to catch some soulful tunes in downtown Nashville. Originally from Vancouver, Emily Chambers sings a little bit of everything. Covering artists like Aretha Franklin, Lauryn Hill, Stevie Wonder, and Amy Winehouse, Chambers’s unique and soulful voice will conjure the ghosts of Motown past while paying homage to the contemporary hip-hop artists of America. Her 2016 EP Magnolia was hailed by the Montreal Gazette as “[having] the warmth, intimacy and confessional tone of classic soul.” Her musical journey has taken her from singing along to the Sister Act soundtrack at the age of three to busking across the South of France and Italy to Bourbon Street Blues & Boogie Bar! Catch this rising star in Printer’s Alley at 7:00 p.m. on January 4th, February 22nd, and March 29th!
Tony, Tabitha, and Tiffany Speight make up the trifecta known as SP8, tasked with carrying on the legacy of their late father Gino Speight, who passed away suddenly in March of 2018. Following in his footsteps, the current manifestation of the Speight family band consists of high-energy choreography, soulful vocal performances, and skilled musicianship. They cut their teeth playing casinos, music festivals, cruise ships, and weddings ‘round the country and abroad with their father’s band, Tight Noise. Not only is SP8 something to hear, but something to watch as well. Often mixing current top 40 hits with doo-wop classics of the 50s, their high-stepping dance moves and tight musical numbers make them a spectacle to behold. Catch them performing on our stage at 10:00 p.m. on January 5th, February 15th, and March 2nd.
Olivia Jones is a force to be reckoned with. Citing Janis Joplin, Robert Plant, Nancy Wilson, and Stevie Nicks as influences, Jones’s unique brand of rock, funk, and soul recall that counterculture sound reminiscent of San Francisco in the 60s and 70s. Raised by a mother and father who were both prominent, seasoned musicians, Jones spent her college years in Pennsylvania studying music at Penn State University during the workweek and rocking out with session musicians on the weekends. As recently as 2016, she’s worked in the studio with producer Mac Gayden, who’s compared her vocal range and abilities to those of Adele’s. Her clean, effortless brand of soul music will move even those casually listening at her shows. Be sure to stop by our stage on December 31st at 7:00 p.m. to see what everyone’s talking about!
