Barback Job Purpose:

Before the bar opens, a Barback stocks the Bourbon Street Blues and Boogie Bar's bar stations with liquor, straws, napkins and garnishes to prepare for service. During service hours, they clean up the bar, remove glasses and bottles, change kegs, refill ice bins, and restock bar stations. After the bar closes, a Barback helps bartenders with closing the bar, cleaning, removing garbage and restocking.
  • Stocking the bar with liquor, syrups, glasses, napkins and other items before, during and after service.
  • Preparing garnishes, refilling ice wells and changing beer kegs.
  • Cleaning up spills, removing glassware and organizing the counter.
  • Keeping the bar area neat and clean.
  • Coordinating with managers, kitchen staff and security personnel to ensure efficient service.
  • Handling urgent situations such as broken glasses and clogged drains.

Food Runner Purpose:

A food runner is responsible for delivering a patron's order in a timely manner. Before exiting the kitchen, the food runner will need to make sure the order is ready to be delivered. When dropping off the food, the food runner will need to make sure the guest is happy and content before heading back to the kitchen.

  • Deliver food orders from the kitchen to customers’ tables rapidly and accurately
  • Act as the contact point between Front of the House and Back of the House staff
  • Communicate food orders to chefs, paying attention to priorities and special requests (e.g. food allergies)
  • Ensure food is served in accordance with safety standards (e.g. proper temperature)
  • Inform restaurant staff about customers’ feedback or requests (e.g. when they ask for the check)

Line Cook Purpose:

Bourbon Street Blues and Boogie Bar is looking for a line cook to prepare food to exact specifications.

  • Prepare food for service (e.g. chopping vegetables, portioning meat, or preparing sauces)
  • Cook menu items in cooperation with the rest of the kitchen staff
  • Answer, report and follow the kitchen manager’s instructions
  • Clean up station and take care of leftover food
  • Stock inventory appropriately
  • Ensure that food comes out simultaneously, in high quality and in a timely fashion
  • Comply with nutrition and sanitation regulations and safety standards
  • Maintain a positive and professional approach with coworkers and customers

Food Runner Skills and Qualifications:
Proven cooking experience, including experience as a Line Chef, Restaurant Cook or Prep Cook Excellent understanding of various cooking methods, ingredients, equipment and procedures Accuracy and speed in executing assigned tasks
